Our Tease-O-Rama Experience, Part 1
Hello Lovely Friends of The Honey Buns,
Lola Getz here, and I'm going to update you all on our trip to San Francisco for Tease-O-Rama 2008.
Natasha and I had a blast during the time we were in San Francisco. We got to see some amazing dancing during the festival and meet some wonderful people.
We arrived at the airport Wednesday night after a very uneventful flight (my favorite kind) and took the BART to downtown San Francisco. We got some late night munchies and then settled down in our hotel.
Thursday October 2nd, 2008
Thursday morning we finally had some time to explore San Francisco, even though we had both been there on vacation at other times. I really wanted to see Japan Town during this trip so we put on our walking shoes and started to explore. According to the map, Japan Town appeared to be close to where we were staying, so there shouldn't have been much walking involved. About halfway to our destination I started using sarcastic air quotes around the word "close" because I am a Midwest kind of girl and all the hills are killer. So even if it looks "close" on a map it's a long walk for a flatlander like me.
When we finally did come to Japan Town we had some very yummy food. We also took some photos in the mall. Since we were performing Thursday night we decided to call it a day after that bit of exploring as we wanted to give the audience our best rendition of our Waitress number to "Pour Some Sugar On Me." After a quick nap and some getting pretty we found our way over to The Rickshaw Stop for the event.
Everyone backstage was amazingly nice and so welcoming. This was our first festival and our first performance outside of Chicago so we were a bit nervous. Well I was a bit nervous on that night. Natasha is usually cool as a cucumber and helps me get my nerves under control. We got to be a part of a really amazing show with some very cool dancers. Kiki Bomb of the Devil-Ettes made Natasha and I feel so welcome. We talked a bit with Trixy Vixen from the UK before we went on stage.
After getting all that Whip Cream cleaned off we watched the last of the show. Ms. Violetta Beretta from Hawaii was amazing! At the end of the night I had been complimented by a guy in a gorilla suit, covered in Whip Cream by one of my best friends in the world, and been part of The Honey Buns' first national burlesque appearance. Our number went really well, we were both very pleased with the results of our hard work and dedication to the art of burlesque. It was a great night but it did not end there.
Natasha and I were starving so we went out for some late night food with our photographer and one of our fans that came all the way from Chicago to see us dance.
Check back soon for updates on Friday (The quest for the perfect hot fudge sundae) and Saturday (The trip home).
Hugs,
Lola
